Youth Economic Group

Broadway theatreWe are a group of teenagers in Sullivan County, affiliated with Rural & Migrant Ministry, who are working to create a cooperative business. are There is a serious lack of jobs - let alone decent, interesting jobs - in Sullivan County, especially for youth. The current economic conditions have led to an even more challenging job environment. Our overriding goal is to create a cooperative business by the end of 2011. We intend to create a sustainable cooperative that will not only provide jobs for other youth in the years to come, but also change our community by inspiring others, offering economic alternatives and creating living wages. During this past year we have collaborated with experts in the field of business and alternative economics from around NY state, as well as regional planners and philanthropic and business planners. They have helped us develop a better understanding of the economy, financial literacy and how to use our skills to make the world a better place.

Slowly we are developing our business and a plan for implementation. Our process has been facilitated by Ms. Jillian Rahm, the Youth Economic Education coordinator. Jillian has focused on cultivating the necessary support base of people and organizations with experience and expertise. We look forward to meeting with you and telling you more about YEG and our project.
